Spatial Energy Planning

by Research Studios Austria FG

Exploiting the full potential of renewables and making the best use of resources and infrastructures requires coordination and information. – This is where Spatial Energy Planning (SEP) comes in. SEP is an important lever for the integration of innovative and sustainable technologies and new market models – thus making long term energy and infrastructure planning possible. Digitalisation provides the necessary foundations by allowing complex urban energy interrelationships to be depicted and analysed.

Energetic Demand Density Model

by Research Studios Austria FG

This energetic demand density model blends geographical data with statistical data and specific demand values to determine an estimate of the energy demand at building level. The spatially discrete knowledge of an energetic demand situation is the basis of decision-making processes for a sustainable transformation of a future heat supply in local and regional settings.

Energy System Optimization with RIVUS

by Research Studios Austria FG

This energy system optimization prototype combines spatial analysis and mathematical optimization to determine scenarios for an optimal heat supply. These scenarios can be used as a basis for decisions on sustainable supply. Optimal supply set-ups under given framework conditions can therefore be identified.

KLIMACENT

by Ökostrombörse

An innovative crowd-funding initiative that supports regional climate protection projects. Supporters contribute depending on their CO2 emissions or energy consumption – at least one euro cent per used kilowatt hour. The raised money goes either into the Klimacent funding pot or can be earmarked for specific projects that are close to the supporter’s hearts.

Enerbrain

by Next Incubator

Enerbrain has developed a dynamic system for controlling HVAC systems (heating, cooling, ventilation) in buildings. The data collected by sensors is algorithmically analysed and then used to adapt the existing HVAC system in real time, whereby significant energy and CO2 savings can be achieved. This is a self-learning system that both increases the energy efficiency of buildings and improves indoor air quality.

Urban Area Parameters

by SIR

International studies suggest that 2000-Watts continuous power per person are compatible with the goal of keeping climate warming below 2°C. Regions and communities in Switzerland have therefore decided to follow this principle of a 2000-Watts-Society – Austria is attempting to develop a comparable system. This project analysed the Swiss system regarding planning, evaluation and quality assurance of new housing estates and investigated its transferability to the Austrian context. Requirements for the adaption of benchmarks, criteria, and structures and processes were examined, and a roadmap including next steps for the development of an Austrian rating system was developed.
